Initech is a Texas-based software company wherein the movie's central plot takes place, managed by division vice president William Lumbergh. Its name is based on the words 'innovative' and 'technology' combined. Company image and company spirit are both important to Initech, as shown by the various speeches performed by Lumbergh and the various oppressive banners hung around the office with the iconic slogan 'Is it good for the company'. According to the perspective of its employees, namely Peter, working for Initech is incredibly dull. At worst, the place can be actually harmful to its employees past just its emotional drain, with instances such as its electrically charged door handles.
After the fire, Initech is rebranded as Initrode.
Trivia[]
- The statue outside of Initech displays a square peg in a round hole, an idiomatic expression which describes any unusual individualist who cannot fit into a niche of their society.
